What data we collect
Bolster does not have user accounts. All course, assignment, grade, and calendar data you create stays only on your device. The only time anything leaves your device is when you scan a syllabus or make a purchase, as described below.
How syllabus scanning works
When you scan a syllabus, the pages you choose (photos or PDFs) are sent over an encrypted connection to Bolster's scanning server, which runs on Cloudflare. The server passes them to Anthropic's Claude AI to find your course details and dates, then sends the results back to your device. Bolster does not store your syllabus pages on its server.
Each scan also includes a random ID created by the app on your device. It is used only to apply a daily scan limit, is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID, and the daily counts are deleted after two days.
Like any web service, Cloudflare may process basic technical information, such as your IP address, to deliver the request securely. Our server logs record only technical details such as the number of pages and whether a scan succeeded, never the contents of your syllabus.
Anthropic processes the pages under its own commercial terms and privacy policy and does not use them to train its models.
Data sharing
We do not sell, share, or use your data for advertising. Bolster uses three service providers: • Cloudflare, which hosts the scanning server described above. • Anthropic, which reads syllabus pages during a scan. • RevenueCat, which manages subscriptions. It receives an anonymous app ID and your purchase status from Apple, never your name or email.
Data retention & deletion
Your courses, grades, and calendar are stored only on your device, so uninstalling the app deletes them. There is no account to delete. The daily scan counts described above are deleted automatically after two days, and syllabus pages are never stored on our server.
Children's privacy
Bolster is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
